October 2022 – Outdoor Lighting We’re Loving

MESSAGE FROM STONEY

With Halloween season upon us, it has me thinking about exterior and landscape lighting. When most people think of using lighting to set the mood or ambiance of a space, they think of the space being indoors.  But, lighting can also be used to enhance the exterior of a home, highlight a specific area in the yard, or even draw focus to an architectural element.

I’ve had a very specific vision for the exterior lighting of our new home.  We currently live in a barndominium on the property.  We have LED lights along the top that shine down, casting a nice glow of light around the barn.  I wanted our new house, and the other structures on our property, to have a cohesive look at night when the lights are on.  I had the same LED lights installed into the gables of our new home.  In addition, I added landscape lighting to the flowerbeds.  These will also provide a nice, low cast light to the area around the house, not only helping me see where I am walking, but also highlighting our landscaping.  I surprised Ellen and the kids with café lights around the dock and playground.  Although, they probably aren’t as excited about it as I am.  We can’t wait for the cooler weather to enjoy having the farm lit up, as the days get shorter!

Outdoor accent lighting can range from our contemporary design to New Orleans’ style gas lanterns.  No matter your taste, accent lighting is an important element to consider in your custom home.

Whether you leave the porch lights on or off October 31st, Anderson Homes wishes you a very Happy Halloween!

Community Impact: Spindletop Straight Shooters

Several years ago, Anderson Homes was contacted about helping build a cover over the Tyrrell Park Archery Range.  The range is home to the Toxophilite Junior Olympic Archery Development Club.  Anderson Homes worked with Melanie Leonard, and her daughter, to build the cover as part of a Girl Scout project.  Because of his love of bow hunting, Stoney signed up to become a coach!

Now, he volunteers his time to teach archery to kids.  He’s even gotten his daughter, Mae Martin, and one of her friends involved.  If you or someone you know between the ages of 8-20 is interested in learning archery, email Melanie Leonard and join in on the fun!

Business Development: Custom Builder Alliance

Stoney and Adam attended the fall, Custom Builder Alliance, Builder 20 meeting in Durham, North Carolina at the beginning of the month.  The running joke was Texas didn’t get a hurricane this year, so the southeast Texans had to fly to North Carolina to experience the tail end of Hurricane Ian! Thankfully, the only effects felt in Durham were high winds and drizzling rain.

This bi-yearly conference is 4 days of learning and fellowship with the other builders in the Builder 20 Group.  This meeting’s topics included labor and material shortages, product lead times, and increased costs.  It was nice to see that despite these struggles that we are all facing, all the members of our group are managing healthy businesses.

By far, everyone’s favorite part of the conference is the home tour.  The weather didn’t stop the group from touring some amazing new builds and gut renovations the team at Build Sense completed.  We were even able to tour an in-process total gut renovation and new addition of a historic home in the Chapel Hill neighborhood.  This home will truly be spectacular and one of a kind when it is completed.
