‘Tis the Dreaded Hurricane Season! Historically, August and September is when activity in the Gulf ramps up. Our area is well versed in hurricane preparedness, and all too familiar with a loss of power for days, weeks, and even months. Being proactive and installing a whole home generator can alleviate stress for a future, or during a current, emergency situation.
When Hurricane Harvey hit, we were living on North Circuit in Beaumont. Ellen’s brother lived next door to us, and he has a whole home Generac generator. After our power went out, we moved next door to the comfort of air conditioning. How easy to walk next door! We eventually headed east to some friend’s house while we waited for Beaumont to be up and running again.
When we moved to the farm, one of the first things I did was install a diesel Generac generator that would run the farm, barndominium, and eventually, our new house. The generator has proved priceless as we experienced Imelda, the power outage after we narrowly escaped Laura, and countless other times we have lost power. With the heat wave we are experiencing now, I couldn’t imagine being without air conditioning for any amount of time.
I understand the cost of a whole home generator is not inexpensive. Therefore, I always tell clients that we can design and build their Anderson Forever Home “generator ready.” We install a gas line to the future location of the generator. We make sure there is space between the meter can and breaker box for an automatic transfer switch. If you wish to get a smaller generator to run just a portion of your home, we can install breakers in an arrangement so its easy to isolate the parts of your house that you want to operate in an emergency situation.
Electricity is a necessity in southeast Texas. Generac provides our home with immediate back up power as soon as power is lost. With a variety of sizes and fuel types (natural gas, liquid propane, or diesel fuel), there is a Generac for every home. Gone are the days of extension cords and gas cans. This hassle free, safe solution can become the most important feature of your home when the power goes out.
