I’ve always had this belief that New Year’s resolutions don’t start January 1, they start February 1. True to form, here I am, the week of February 5, working on our first newsletter of the year that I was supposed to get out last month.

In my defense, at Anderson Homes, we have had our nose to the grindstone, in this first month of 2024, finishing some big jobs. We cannot wait to post pictures on social media of these amazing projects, once they are completed. 2023 was a heck of a year for high end custom residential construction for Anderson Homes. We are very proud of what we have accomplished and we look forward to showcasing our work in the months to come.

However, it’s time to start making plans for the rest of the year! This newsletter is about goals. We have some goals; like always serving our clients to the best of our ability, that remain constant, no matter what time of year it is. But, we also try to plan each year with what we hope to accomplish in the next 12 months. For me this year, its about securing the types of jobs that are a good fit for us.

People that call into Anderson Homes, or send an inquiry through our website, are always surprised when we cannot provide them with “our price per square foot”. Even an average price per square foot would be a flat out guess in most cases. This is because we never build the same thing twice. Each of our projects are extremely unique. From deciding whether we are going to use a plan designer, or a licensed architect, all the way through to the end of the project, no two projects are alike, or even similar enough to give a basic quote, without doing a lot of due diligence first.

Anderson Homes specializes in the one of a kind, the house that is uniquely the client’s, the vision that is developed into the perfect home for our customers. Because the process is so dependent on the thousands of decisions that need to be made to make a project a special space, providing a price per square foot is not possible until we meet with the potential customer to find out what they are looking for.

To accomplish this, we have a documented design process. Each project starts with an initial, or discovery meeting. We then provide an initial cost range for the project, so that a customer knows if what they want, lines up with their available budget. If a potential customer decides that they want Anderson Homes to be their builder, we then enter into a preconstruction agreement and start to design the project.


Up front, Anderson Homes’ goal is to design the project on paper first. We have a saying that each week in the design process is worth a month of construction time. It’s a whole lot more cost effective to make changes on paper than it is to in the field, once the project has started. Our design process has several steps, always bracketed by a cost analysis to make sure we are staying true to our budget goals. We want to work out all that we can before contract so that the contract price is our very best effort to accurately provide our, now client, with exactly what they want. The design process ends with a construction contract, and then followed up by promises kept by Anderson Homes during construction.

Business Development

Anderson Homes is excited to have some new offerings to the market at the beginning of this year. The first one is the spec home we built in 2022 at 280 Pine Burr in Lumberton. Community Involvement

Stoney and Ellen attended the Not So Newlywed Game benefitting the Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas. The Samaritan Counseling Center is a non-profit organization which uses the integration of both behavioral science and faith traditions as a base for counseling. The center promotes the healing and growth of individuals and reconciliation of couples, families, and organizations. Donations allow the Samaritan Counseling Center to provide services to everyone regardless of their ability to pay.

Employee Spotlight

Jeremy Wilson, Anderson Homes’ lead project manager, is from Cleburne, TX. A graduate of Texas Tech University, Jeremy originally cut his teeth in custom home building in the Dallas Ft Worth area. Jeremy moved to Southeast Texas several years ago and is now proud to call our community home. Jeremy adds 15 years of homebuilding experience to the Anderson Homes’ team, making our knowledge, capability, professionalism, and desire to serve our customers all that much stronger. 

Jeremy’s personal goals this year include running his first half marathon coming up on February 24th. We wish Jeremy the best of luck in his training and we will be looking for him across the finish line on the 24th!
